Coronavirus cases and the correlation to London Migration

PlaceDashboard has mapped the migration of people from London during pre lockdown (16th – 23rd March) and the post lockdown week (23rd – 30th  March) and compared the migration movement behaviours to the current coronavirus cases heat map for the 15th April 2020 in order to understand if if there a correlation between virus cases and migration movement from London.

For all five geographic areas ( Scotland, North, Midlands, South East and South West ) the following visualisations clearly show a strong match between pre lockdown migration and coronavirus cases.

Post lockdown the migration of people from London significantly reduced and therefore a correlation between coronavirus cases and London migration is more difficult to demonstrate.

From the PlaceDashboard analysis there does appear to be a linkage between people migrating from London to the rest of the UK and the Coronavirus spread across the UK.
